The project consisted of the complete demolition and fit-out of approximately 20,000 sq.ft. of the East Wing at the Upper School. The project included the construction of new MEP heavy Design Labs, new classrooms, a common space and new science labs. The mechanical scope was extensive given the separate air intakes and zoned systems at each of the new Design Labs and Science Labs.
A one-month sheet metal worker strike provided an extreme risk to an already accelerated schedule. Prodigy assisted by re-sequencing other trades to continue the remaining subcontractor progress without hindering the sheet metal work to mitigate the strike impact.
Prodigy put emphasis on pricing and contemplated changes in a timely manner to allow the Client and Consultant team time to make informed decisions and research other avenues that may be available to either, avoid changes or minimize financial impact to the overall project.
Complex mechanical systems made for a lengthy installation, as the school intended to create several new Design Labs and Science Labs / Classrooms. Prodigy advanced the drywall trade by obtaining consensus to have walls put up ahead of welded duct work which advanced the finishes greatly and alleviated schedule challenges.
The project called for several specific pieces of Science Lab equipment to be procured from the United States and under severe supply chain risk. Prodigy worked actively with the Consultant team to review the feasibility of using an equivalent Canadian supplier to avoid supply chain risk.
