Overview

INSTITUTIONAL

Prodigy was engaged as Construction Manager for the new 34,000 sq.ft. addition at St. Clement’s School a girls-only independent school in Toronto, ON.

The project consists of four new levels, including a large basement level below grade where a gymnasium will be located. The space will also accommodate a new library, cafeteria, classrooms and design lab spaces, along with a completely renovated roof terrace for the lower school students.

This project has faced several challenges which our project team and the consultants have done extremely well to overcome; permitting delays, strict municipal inspections, and an overall logistically challenged site. The construction site is extremely tight and provides for almost a ‘zero laydown’ area, which has enabled our firm to become creative with regards to staging materials and strategically coordinating deliveries. The site is also located several blocks away from Yonge & Eglinton, one of Canada’s busiest intersections, making heavy machinery and in/out access a daily challenge. Given our firms expertise in urban construction, within high density urban sites, we have provided solutions based on a highly effective site logistics plan. The all-girls private school was also in full session during our construction activities, however in true collaboration with the consultants and the school, instead of being in the way of their operations, we have insulated ourselves by shrouding the site and creating a proper separation of work barrier. That being said, in an effort to also integrate, we have invited the school to use this exciting expansion event as an opportunity for the student body to learn more about the design and architecture behind what it is that we do onsite every day and the planning involved.

This project was delivered at end of 2023 with an aggressive schedule, which the team successfully achieved based on our ability to work with the school, the community, the consultant team and authorities having jurisdiction.
